Nobody Prepared Me for This — Lagos Book Reading & Community Gathering (2025)
On 26 October 2025, I hosted the Lagos reading and launch of my debut book, Nobody Prepared Me for This: 4 Deadly Sins, at Fired&Iced in Lagos. What began as a small idea during a trip home for my father’s memorial became a full, heart-filled gathering centred around grief, memory, community, and art.
The evening brought together readers, artists, and friends for an intimate exploration of loss and healing. Through performances, poetry, conversation, and shared silence, the room became what I hoped it would be: a place where people could feel held, seen, and safe.

Community Support & Giving Back
As part of the evening, I gifted a laptop to one attendee — something I hoped would help open doors for someone navigating their own path. In a gathering about grief and rebuilding, it felt important to offer something tangible that could support someone’s future.
Alongside the reading, donated copies of the book were distributed to schools, libraries, and youth groups across Lagos and Edo State. The event became a catalyst for a growing donation project, helping ensure that young readers and grief communities have access to the book regardless of cost.
A Moment I am Still Processing
This gathering was my first time reading from the book in Nigeria (or ever, really). It was also the first time I allowed myself to be fully held by community. I’m still processing the enormity of it, but I remain deeply grateful to everyone who showed up, said yes, and helped create a space where grief and beauty could exist side by side.
